I want to play that!

February 28, 2007 at 2:16 pm (ウィッチクエスト ALSHARD, ウィッチクエスト Witch quest., Games, Reborn Rebirth)

Over at Yudhishthira’s Dice, Brand poses the question:

Ladies, what RPG covers (or interiors) have you seen that involve a woman in the art that make you say, “I want to play that” or, just as good “I want to play her.” Or that make you feel like it is a game you could like, or be included in by a group of guys you’d never met and whose maturity you didn’t neccisarily know?

Meme Rules:

  1. Copy the text of the original challenge from Yudhishthira’s Dice and give a proper link attribution.
  2. Copy these rules exactly.
  3. Find images of game covers (interiors are okay, too) that make you want to play the game. Any kind of game — video game, card game, tabletop RPG, etc — is fine. Post them and include a short (or long) explanation on why the image makes/made you want to play the game.
  4. The original challenge is about finding out what women think about how game art is marketed and therefore it is targeted at women. I’d like to keep it that way, please.
  5. You can tag as many or as few people as you want. You do not need to be tagged to participate in the meme.
  6. When you make your post, please post the link on this thread so we can all see what others have said.

Since I was tagged. Here I go.

ウィッチクエスト. Witch quest. A system based off Kikis delivery service. I dont think the picture I’m showing is the cover of the rulebook, but I have picked up systems after looking at supplements.

The reasons I want to play this is partly based on the film itself. The film is a great woman postive film. The settup also gives the gm lots of ideas 🙂 This game looks like it will be fun for kids as well as adults. Which I consider important as it gives the gm flexibility (lets parents and kids game together for one) and helps get more people into the hobby.

Its a new take on the fantesy game. The hero in Kikis delivery service was a brave young girl. Its easy as a gm, to think of plots for younger or older witches doing the same job kiki was. An older witch in a large town might have a lot of different, difficult or dangerous problems and younger witches might easily gang up to share information on a new problem which might be a lot smaller.

There isn’t any fan service on the book cover (which would be more disturbing than normal as the character looks young), I don’t like that on a rule book. I think if a gm wants to make the game sexy, they can. The designers don’t need to help, plus it rules out the choice to use the game for kids.

This game is simular to final fantesy. FF is a big draw for geeky women, or at least it is for me. The covers have more fan service than I like but there is a lof of good here too, and there are HEROS here. I want to play a hero. I want to be an rpg hero when I play. I want to save the world. The three covers based off the game give three different styles and are all cool. If I was a secondary student again back in convent school. I would love to play a convert girl with a sword saving the world. Hell I’d play it now for memories sake of secondary school life.  I like that my experiences of life seem to have been show in a cooler hero way.

Oh in the first one seems swords and magic saving the world. They show one guy and two girls. This view says you can run this as an adult game for 20 somethings. Pure ff7 or ff8 stylings. Cool. The second seems to be someone who has martial arts and uses a gun. When I was taking martial arts this would have looked even better to me. The last is schoolgirls with swords, so you could run this for a bunch of your secondary school friends..

Japanese Gurps: Reborn Rebirth. I love this cover. I like the woman with the red hair and a spear. I also like the religious/demon theme they have running here. I wonder if its based off crono crusade, which has a very cool main character who is a nun. Again all the characters look like heros, and I always play a hero.
